Read Up On It – March 2nd, 2012
In this week’s edition of Read Up On It, you’ll find everything from Martin Picard’s love of maple syrup and squirrel meat, tequila love and Montreal’s Joe Beef boys joins Tumblr.

The Boys from Joe Beef hang out with Ferran Adria, via their Tumblr blog
- It looks like Tumblr isn’t just for teenagers and niche porn. It’s also for dudes from Montreal who own shit hot restos. Joe Beef has joined the micro blogging site. (Tumblr hint: you guys need a better theme for your page.)
- The CBC reports that lobsters may be an indicator of climate change. Eep.
- Speaking of seafood, The Economist looks into the world of fishing quotas and posits that maybe, just maybe, a global system may be the best way to go about it.
- The Atlantic seems to be pouring out all kinds of interesting food stories this week. First there was Barry Estabrook’s story about how Bon Appetit Management, one of the biggest food buyers in the U.S. is now putting pressure on its farmers to raise its pork in more ethically sound ways. In the same vein, they posted an op-ed about the well being of chickens in large-scale farming. Then finally, there was a piece about the production of the nectar of the agave gods, tequila.
- Although Cristina Tosi’s “Milk” cookbook has been around for a while, that didn’t stop this intrepid reporter from Charleston, to try his hand at it, and deem Tosi to be the Samuel L. Jackson of the pastry world. Just cause she likes putting motherfucking salt in her motherfucking sweets?
- Josh Ozersky waxes poetic about cast iron pans in Time.
- Even though this article via the L.A. Weekly is specifically about the korean dining scene there, I’m a big fan of Jonathan Gold, if only for giving me more ideas and information about Korean food I should try to find.
- And last but not least, Martin Picard of Montreal’s famed “Au Pied De Cochon” releases another cookbook, this time inspired by his Cabana À Sucre. The Globe meets up with him to talk about maple sryup and squirrel sushi.
